The Surrealist Painting of  Pieter Van Tonder

I started painting, not with a very clear understanding of why, but rather driven by a firm belief that I should. I started shortly after the turn of the century with solid determination to establish myself as quickly as possible. I did not have the luxury to study fine art and art history for many years before going out into the world as a professional, I also did not want, to spent those years on theory. All of life is a journey in learning and discovery and that never stops, so I just picked up the brushes and started to paint.

With a unique and personal style, marked by a desaturated color range with small touches of color, combined by his distinctive and elegant baroque designs, works especially with photocomposition.
Author of “13 inches”, published by Norma editorial in 2009. He usually works as a cover artist of the world’s best publishers. His illustrations can be found in the most important illustration compilation books and some of his book covers have been published in more than 14 countries.

At this moment combines his work as cover artist with a new personal project called XIII “The art of Nekro” a compilation of his best artworks, which will be published this year by Norma editorial.
